Description

Exhibits at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington D.C. The Hirshhorn is an architectural landmark and includes an outdoor sculpture garden on its grounds. The Hirshhorn Museum is a Smithsonian institution located on the National Mall.

The museum is named for its founding donor, Joseph H. Hirshhorn. Hirshhorn immigrated from Latvia when he was only eight years old to the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York. Hirshhorn became a financier, but he was also known for his philanthropy and his extensive collection of modern art. His gift of over 6,000 pieces of art established the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in 1974.
