This photograph is captioned on the reverse, "Inside Court of Charles Warren Lippitt Place. Newport, Rhode Island." This imposing mansion was constructed by Governor Charles Warren Lippitt in 1899, and demolished after his death in 1924. It was known as "Breakwater" and sat across from the Ward-Wharton House on Ledge Rd. in Newport. The date of this photograph is approximate.
