Description
A rural kiln designed by the German geologist Matias Heine who is thought to have lived in Boa Vista during the mid 1980's. The purpose of this kiln is to bake the local "cal" or limestone more efficiently than traditional methods in order to make cement. Matias Heine is remembered as a friend of the people of Cape Verde. Three local boys stand amidst the kiln which is thought to be located on the outskirts of Praia de Chaves, as it is known on the island of Boa Vista for its ruins of old kilns.
