Description
Santa Luzia is an uninhabited island located southeast of São Vicente. In the 17th century small numbers of people moved to the island, mostly shepherds, the last of them left in the 1960s. The island is small, dry, and barren. This photograph views the island from Calhau, a small village on the eastern shore of São Vicente. Tourists and visitors may visit the island from São Vicente by talking to fishermen in Calhau who may be hired to take them there.
