Description

The Providence skyline, including the iconic Industrial Trust Building, pictured from Interstate 95. Construction of I-95 was completed in 1965, amidst the establishment of the High Speed Ground Transportation Act and the construction of I-195, both major influences on transportation networking, tourism, and commerce for Providence. The Industrial Trust Building is a well-known facet of the Providence skyline, as it was for over twenty years the tallest building in New England. It may also have once been home to a secret cocktail lounge during the Prohibition.
